The best afternoon-teas in Bruges

Although afternoon-teas are best associated with the British culture, this delightful ritual can be also be enjoyed on the other side of the English Channel. As Bruges, in Flanders, is a favorite destination with the Brits, some of the local hotels and cafes’ now offer a very decent afternoon-tea experience. Lucky for me, as I am rather obsessed with little pastries, cucumber sandwiches and a correctly brewed pot of tea.

“There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.”
Henry James

I cannot agree more.

This elegant and classical hotel located right on one of the most popular canals, Dijver,  offers a traditional and very fine British afternoon-tea experience. The Gulliver Tree

Decorated in Scandinavian style, The Gulliver Tree is a cosy cafe’ run by two sisters and their mother, located in a quiet street of the Markt. All food is organic and freshly prepared on site with a vast selection of fine teas,  coffees and home-made cakes.

Afternoon Tea is served in the Green Room, with its impressive collection of modern and contemporary art or (if the weather permits) on the hotel’s stunning terrace, right on the canal.
