How to get there Atelier House is situated on a dramatic ridge in the village of Lower Carlton, on the West Coast of the Caribbean island of Barbados. It is close to some of the island's best stretches of coastline, which can all be freely explored as Barbados famously has no private beaches. Barbados is extremely easy to navigate by car or bus, and Lower Carlton is near several useful towns for shopping and exploring including Holetown and Speightstown, with its candy-coloured houses. A short distance from Atelier House, the Carlton Variety Grill & Bar is a firm Bajan favourite. Otherwise known as Jefferson's in honour of the larger than life owner, it serves excellent barbeque and fish fry. Barbados' most famous restaurant, the Cliff, is suited to those who want to experience it as a costly but wonderful special night out, with a gorgeous coastal setting. John Moore's Bar, right on the beach near the property is a not-to-be-missed dose of regional authenticity with cheery locals chilling out and playing games. The coastal road also yields many other street food and rum shack delights. Understandably, with stunning white sand beaches so nearby, including the celebrated Reefs Bay beach, a lot of Lower Carlton's attractions focus on the water. There are ample diving and snorkelling opportunities in an area rich in marine life, including turtles and sharks. The fauna can also be admired from one of many local glass bottom boat tours. Back on land, there are some world class gold courses to enjoy on Barbados. Bridgetown, the charming capital, has a craft studio, some historic buildings to admire and plenty of duty free shopping opportunities.
